This is the official LinkedIn page for the City of Duarte. The City of Duarte rests against the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and is approximately 20 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Duarte is a general law city under a council/manager form of government, employing 42 full-time and 150 part-time employees. Recognized by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) as Los Angeles County’s 2012 Most Business Friendly City, Duarte’s low business license and permit fees, no utility user’s tax, low property tax, multi-modal transit options and easy access to the 210, 605 and 10 freeways and the soon to be open Metro Gold Line, foster a dynamic business environment. At 7 square miles, Duarte is home to a diverse community of approximately 22,000 residents and the City of Hope, the leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. The City is ranked as one of the San Gabriel Valley’s safest communities and provides residents and visitors 54 miles of walkable, well-maintained streets and over 52 acres of open space and 14 public parks. Duarte, an ethnically diverse community, was also recognized in 2014 by the National League of Cities with a first place City Cultural Diversity Award. Brief History In 1841, the Governor of Alta California granted former Mexican Corporal Andres Duarte and his wife were granted 7,000 acres of land and named it Rancho Azusa de Duarte. The Gabrielino Indians once inhabited the land that is now known as the City of Duarte. Decades later, on August 22, 1957 the City of Duarte and the Duarte Unified School District were formed.
