Earl Graves serves as the Police Director and Chair of the City of Elizabeth Police Department, overseeing the fourth largest police department in New Jersey since June 2019. In this role, Earl Graves leads law enforcement and civilian teams to uphold law and order for 143,000 residents, managing strategic planning, policy setting, and budget development. Previous experience includes serving as the Deputy Chief of Detectives at the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, where Earl Graves directed an investigative team and managed training and procurement efforts from 1996 to 2018. Additionally, Earl Graves was the Past President of the National Fraternal Order of Police from 2006 to 2016 and began a career in law enforcement as a Police Officer in East Orange from 1993 to 1996 and as a Probation Officer with the Hudson County Probation Department earlier. Earl Graves holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University and attended the FBI National Academy at the University of Virginia.
