Alex Baker

Alex Baker serves as the Speaker of the Lumbee Tribal Council since January 2023, where responsibilities include shaping the Tribe's future, certifying Tribal Ordinances, and ensuring fair representation of Lumbee voices. Baker also holds positions as a District 13 Representative and Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee, while chairing the Federal Recognition and Government Affairs Committee and serving as a delegate to the National Congress of American Indians. In addition, Baker is the Assistant Economic and Community Development Director for the City of Fayetteville, North Carolina, with prior roles in community relations and public affairs within the Lumbee Tribe from 2002 to 2013. Baker possesses a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication/Media Studies from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and has earned several executive certificates from Duke University and the University of North Carolina School of Government.
