City of Huntsville, Texas
Founded in 1835, Huntsville is one of Texas’ oldest cities and home of Sam Houston, the first and third President of the Republic of Texas and later Governor of the state. Huntsville is situated in the eastern Piney Woods region of the state. Located in town are two of Houston's homes, a museum, and a 66 ft. statue which is the tallest statue of an American hero in the world. We are also home to Sam Houston State University, Texas Department of Criminal Justice (the only state agency with headquarters outside of Austin), and Huntsville State Park.
