Mike Jackson has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Mike began their career in 2001 as a Public Health Investigator for the City of Independence. After that, they worked as a Senior Environmental Health Specialist at the Clay County Public Health Center in 2004. In 2005, they joined the City of Independence again as a Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator. Mike later became an Environmental Health Supervisor in 2009 and served in that role until 2013. From 2013 to 2016, they worked as an Assistant Health Director and then transitioned to become the Assistant Community Development Director until 2018. Since May 2018, Mike has been working as the Deputy Director of Municipal Services at the City of Independence, Missouri. Additionally, they have also worked as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor at UMKC since 2015.
Mike Jackson attended The University of Kansas from 1996 to 2001, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Environmental Studies. Mike then pursued further education at the University of Illinois Springfield from 2008 to 2012, obtaining a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Environmental Health. In addition, Mike has obtained several certifications, including Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) from the American Association of Code Enforcement, Certified Environmental Health Specialist (CEHS) from the Missouri Environmental Health Association, and Certified Wastewater Operator "D" from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
