Eric Werner

Eric Werner has a strong background in law enforcement, with over 30 years of experience. Eric began their career as a Police Officer with the Village of Addison in 1988, where they served for seven years. Eric then joined the City of Perham as a Police Officer in 1995 and worked there for three years before moving on to the City of Deephaven in Minnesota in 1998. After a short stint as a Police Officer in Deephaven, Werner joined the City of Burnsville in 1999, where they served as a Police Officer, Police Sergeant, and eventually Police Captain until 2012. Eric then became the Chief of Police for the City of Rosemount from 2012 to 2014 before taking on the role of Chief of Police for the City of Maple Grove in Minnesota in 2014, where they are currently employed. Throughout their career, Werner has been actively involved in various law enforcement organizations, including serving as the President of the Hennepin County Chiefs of Police Association in 2017 and the President of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association from 2021 to 2022. Eric is also a Board Member of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Foundation since 2021.

Eric Werner earned a Master of Arts degree in Police Leadership, Education and Administration from the University of St. Thomas in 2004. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management and Communication from Concordia University-St. Paul in 1998. In 2003, they attended Northwestern University where they studied Police Leadership and Management at the School of Police Staff and Command. Additionally, they completed the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police in 2022. Eric Werner also attended the FBI National Academy Session 231 in 2007. There is no information available regarding their time at the James P Shannon Leadership Institute.
