Erik Scairpon has a diverse background in law enforcement and leadership roles. Erik began their career in 1998 as a Police Dispatcher before moving up to various positions within the Redmond Police Department, including Officer, Police Lieutenant, and Police Commander. During their time at the Redmond Police Department, they managed teams, oversaw operations and administrative functions, and served as a 911 Director. In 2014, they became the Police Captain for the City of Redmond, where they led Patrol, 911 Communications, Records, Evidence & Property. In addition to their work with the City of Redmond, Scairpon also served as a Board President for Victim Support Services. More recently, they assumed the role of Chief of Police for the City of Marysville, WA, starting in September 2020. Erik is also a Commissioner for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, representing law enforcement and participating in the establishment of standards and training for criminal justice professionals.

Erik Scairpon completed the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) program at the Police Executive Research Forum in 2016, during Session 62. Erik holds a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, although the specific dates of their enrollment are unknown. Similarly, their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology was obtained from the University of Washington, but the exact duration of their education at this institution is unavailable.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Erik Scairpon obtained the Executive Level Certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in April 2019.
