Emily Stern has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Emily started their career as a Research Analyst at Aspen Systems Corporation in 1995. Emily then worked as a Senior Research Associate at the National League of Cities from 1998 to 2000. Following that, they joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an Environmental Protection Specialist from 2000 to 2002. Emily then served as a Principal Planner at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency from 2002 to 2005. Their most recent position was as a Senior Project Coordinator at the City of Minneapolis, which they began in 2005.

Emily Stern's education history includes a Master of Arts (MA) in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which they pursued from 1993 to 1995. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics from St. Olaf College, where they studied from 1988 to 1992.
