Joe Bernard, AICP has a strong background in urban planning, with extensive experience in various roles at the City of Minneapolis. From 2006 to 2018, they held positions such as Planning Project Manager, Principal City Planner, Senior City Planner, and City Planner. In these roles, Joe led complex projects, developed new policies, and implemented land use regulations. Joe played a key role in the Minneapolis 2040 comprehensive plan update and received recognition for advancing conversations around racial equity in land use policy. Joe also worked on rezoning studies, policy implementation, and engaged with a diverse range of stakeholders to shape land use and infrastructure processes. In addition to their work in urban planning, Joe is the Owner/Craftsman of the Dead Drift Net Company, where they build handmade wood landing nets.

Joe Bernard, AICP has a solid education background in the field of Urban and Regional Planning. Joe earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Minnesota, where they studied from 1999 to 2005. Following their undergraduate studies, Joe pursued a Master of Arts degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, where they studied from 2005 to 2007.

In addition to their academic achievements, Joe Bernard also holds a certification from the American Planning Association. Joe obtained the certification of American Institute of Certified Planners in June 2008.
