Surluta Anthony

Surluta Anthony has extensive experience in public service and community engagement, currently serving as a Member of the Board of Directors for Community Health Services Union County since September 2014 and as a Board Member for the National Black Caucus-Local Elected Officials since November 2015. Additionally, Surluta has been a City Councilwoman for the City of Monroe, NC, since December 2013, having been re-elected for a second term. Prior roles include serving as a Probation Parole Officer with the NC Department of Public Safety, Field Director/Mentoring Specialist for the Girl Scouts, and various positions in local community organizations, including as Owner and Publisher of the Ebon Courier. Surluta holds an Associate's degree in Christian Studies from Sure Foundation and Theological Institute, a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Pfeiffer University, and a Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Central Piedmont Community College.

New stores, restaurants and other establishments pop up constantly along Highway 74 while farmlands continue to grow crops and serve as pastureland for animals and livestock. Monroe provides excellent recreational options for residents of all ages. There are parks, various recreational facilities, ball fields, tennis courts, Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center , Monroe Country Club and Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center. The city even has future plans to include a greenway to connect all of the city's parks. With a boast of amenities such as these, it is no wonder Monroe is an up-and-coming city. Yet, despite all its progressive growth and energy, Monroe still maintains the charm of a true southern town.
