David Ray has a diverse work experience in the field of maintenance operations and leisure services. David served as the Director of Maintenance Operations at the City of New Smyrna Beach since December 2021. Before that, they held the role of Director of Leisure Services from April 2020 to December 2021. Prior to joining the City of New Smyrna Beach, David worked as a Sport Complex Manager at the same organization since April 2014. David also served as the Assistant Director of Maintenance Operations from February 2017 to April 2020. Before their tenure at the City of New Smyrna Beach, David worked at Rolling Meadows Park District, where they held the position of Division Manager of Athletics from August 2008 to April 2014. David started their career at Rolling Meadows Park District as an Athletic Supervisor from August 2003 to August 2008. Additionally, David worked at Rolling Meadows Park District as an Ice Arena Supervisor from June 2001 to July 2003.

David Ray completed their Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sport and Fitness Management from Carthage College between 1997 and 2001. David later pursued a Master's Degree in Leadership Management from North Central College, which they completed between 2006 and 2008.
