Deputy City Attorney at City of Newport Beach

Jose Montoya currently serves as the Deputy City Attorney for the City of Newport Beach since September 2024. Previously, Montoya held the position of Assistant City Attorney/City Prosecutor for the City of Santa Ana from December 2019 to August 2024. Prior to that role, Montoya worked as an Associate at Olivarez Madruga Lemieux O’Neill, LLP, and Lozano Smith, where assistance was provided to public agency clients on various local government issues. Additionally, Montoya served as a Board Member for the Los Angeles International Charter High School and was an Associate at Alvarez-Glasman & Colvin, representing multiple cities in a Deputy City Attorney capacity. Montoya began legal experience as a Certified Law Clerk with the Los Angeles City Attorney and held various law clerk positions earlier in the legal career. Educational qualifications include a J.D. in Environmental Law from Whittier Law School and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside.
