Maurice Mercer has a diverse work experience. Maurice began their career at Verizon Wireless as a Senior Sales Representative and Supervisor, where they quickly rose to the role after exceeding monthly goals. Maurice then worked as a Business Agent at Al Midsouth Council, serving as a liaison and mediator for employee retention and negotiating contracts. Maurice later joined Junior Davis & Associates, Inc. as a Representative, specializing in visual branding and promotional products. Maurice also worked as a Financial Services Specialist at Regions Financial Corporation, managing consumer and commercial banking, wealth management, and insurance products and services. Maurice then became a Managing Partner at Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. before establishing their own logistics firm called KATs Delivery as a Managing Partner. Maurice currently holds the position of Council President at the City of Pelham, overseeing finances and property and establishing policies for the municipality. Additionally, they are also the Managing Member at The Take Out Bham.

Maurice Mercer obtained their BA in Business Administration from Troy University, where they attended from 2000 to 2004. In addition to their degree, Maurice has acquired several certifications throughout their career. In 2013, they became a Notary Public through the Shelby County Alabama institution. A year later, in 2014, Maurice obtained their Life and Health Insurance Producer certification from the State of Alabama Department of Insurance. Most recently, in 2021, they completed the Certificate in Entrepreneurship program offered by the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses - SoCal institution. Additionally, Maurice obtained the Certified Municipal Officer certification in November 2021 from the Alabama League of Municipalities.
