Smart Cities Director

Akshay Malik serves as the Smart Cities Director for the City of Philadelphia since July 2017, where responsibilities include leading a team of analysts, data scientists, and project managers, and fostering interdepartmental relationships to drive operational change. Previously, Akshay held the position of Infrastructure Innovation Coordinator and worked as a Transportation Planner and Data Analyst focused on the Vision Zero Program, aiming to reduce traffic-related fatalities in Philadelphia. Akshay's earlier experience includes roles at the University of Pennsylvania as a Spatial Data Analyst and Swim Instructor, an Urban Development Intern at Ballinger, and a Senior Architect/Urban Designer at Vishwanath Associates, leading projects on railway station designs in South India. Educational accomplishments comprise a Master of City Planning and a GIS and Spatial Data Analytics certificate from the University of Pennsylvania, alongside a Bachelor of Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
