Renee Nickenig

Renee Nickenig is an experienced planning and preservation professional currently serving as an Associate Planner for the City of San Rafael since March 2020, with responsibilities in application processing, project review, and public communication. Prior experience includes roles as a Preservation Planner for the City and County of San Francisco and Project Manager and Architectural Historian at Garavaglia Architecture, Inc., where work focused on historic resource evaluations and compliance with preservation standards. Nickenig also held positions as Membership Coordinator at the American Institute of Architects, Communications and Programs Manager at San Francisco Heritage, and staff for the Heritage Preservation Commission in Saint Paul. Educational credentials include a Master of Science in Architecture with a focus on Heritage Conservation from the University of Minnesota, complemented by a Graduate Minor in Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine/Studio Arts from the University of Southern California.
