Heather Averick has a diverse work experience. Heather is currently the Director of Housing and Human Services at the City of Santa Monica since November 2023. Prior to that, they worked as the Director of Supportive Housing at Affirmed Housing Group from April 2019 to November 2023. From July 2018 to November 2023, Heather served as a non-profit consultant at 501(c) Success. Heather also held the position of Executive Director at Harvest of Hope Pantry from November 2016 to May 2018, where they successfully managed operations and increased funding. Earlier in their career, they served as the Executive Director and Staff Attorney at Think Dignity from October 2013 to February 2016. Heather also has experience as an Immigration Associate Attorney and Attorney at different law offices between 2012 and 2013. Heather started their legal career as a Legal Intern at Children's Advocacy Institute from June 2010 to August 2010 and worked as a Mediator at North County Lifeline Mediation/Girls Rehabilitative Facility from April 2010 to July 2010.

Heather Averick received a BA in Journalism and Mass Communications, with a double major in Spanish, from The University of New Mexico in 2005. Heather then obtained a Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 2011. Heather has additional certifications as a Certified Mediator and a Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law.
