Stelios Makrides has a diverse work experience in the field of airport management and operations. Stelios started their career in 2002 as an Airport Operations Assistant at the City of Santa Barbara and worked in this role until 2006. In 2006, they joined the City of Santa Monica and held various positions over the years. Stelios started as an Airport Noise/Operations Specialist and then became an Airport Operations Administrator in 2008. In 2013, they were promoted to the role of Airport Manager and served in this position until 2016. From 2016 to 2018, Stelios worked as the Airport Director at the City of Santa Monica. Stelios then took on the role of Airport & Real Estate Director in 2018 and served in this position until 2019. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Operating Officer Public Works/Airport Director at the City of Santa Monica, starting in December 2019.

Stelios Makrides obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Airport Management from California State University, Los Angeles in the period of 1998-2001. Stelios then pursued further education in Crisis Communications for Transportation Professionals at the National Transportation Safety Board until 2009. Additionally, they completed the Supervisory Academy program at the City of Santa Monica in 2008.
