Thomas Whitley

Director Of Strategic Innovation at City of Tallahassee

Thomas Whitley has a diverse work experience. Thomas began their career as an Adjunct Professor at Gardner-Webb University in 2010, teaching until April 2011. Thomas then joined Florida State University as a Graduate Assistant and Teaching Assistant, working there until 2016. During this time, they also served as a Contributing Editor for the Marginalia Review of Books from 2015 to 2017. In 2016, they became the Assistant Director at Florida State University's Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards, a position they held until March 2018. Thomas briefly worked as an Aide to Leon County Commissioner John Dailey from April to November 2018 before joining the City of Tallahassee. At the City of Tallahassee, they served as the Chief of Staff for the Mayor from November 2018 to June 2022. Thomas currently holds the role of Director of Strategic Innovation at the City of Tallahassee, starting in June 2022.

Thomas Whitley received their B.A. in Religion/Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2006. Thomas then went on to earn a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Religion (New Testament, Christian Origins) from Gardner-Webb University in the years 2007-2010. Finally, they completed their education with a Ph.D. in Religions of Western Antiquity from Florida State University between 2011 and 2016.
