Melissa Brown has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Melissa began their career as an Accountant at Mobil Oil in 1983 and worked there until 1985. Melissa then joined Petro-Hunt as an Accountant from 1987 to 1992. In 1999, they joined the City of Heath as a Senior Accountant and worked there until 2006. Since 2006, Melissa has been working at the City of Wylie, Texas. Melissa initially served as the Assistant Finance Director from 2006 to 2018, before being promoted to the role of Finance Director in April 2018.

Melissa Brown completed their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University. Melissa attended the university from 1979 to 1983.

The Wylie City Council consists of the Mayor and six Council members. The Mayor and Council are elected at-large, which means they represent the entire city and all registered voters may vote for all seven places. Following each election, the Council selects a fellow Council member to serve as Mayor ProTem.
