Yucaipa is a “General Law” City, governed by a City Council/City Manager form of government. The City Council has the power to make and enforce all laws and regulations with respect to municipal affairs. The Yucaipa City Council is comprised of five Councilmembers elected by districts.  Each shares equal voting powers on all items coming before the Council, and the position of Mayor rotates every year.

The City Council appoints the City Manager and City Attorney and members of all advisory boards, commissions, and committees.  The City Council also serves as the Board of Directors for the Successor Agency to the Yucaipa
Redevelopment Agency and the Yucaipa Housing Authority.  City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month in the City Hall Council Chambers.  Agenda packets, minutes and on‐demand audio of the

The Engineering and Planning team at the City of Yucaipa is responsible for overseeing and managing the city's infrastructure projects, urban development, and community planning initiatives. This team ensures that all new developments and construction projects adhere to local regulations and standards, while also working on long-term planning to support the city's growth and maintain its charm and safety. Key tasks include evaluating project proposals, coordinating with developers, updating zoning regulations, and facilitating community input on planning decisions.
