Andrea Encarnacao Martin

Trustee at City Year

Andrea Nicole Encarnacao Martin was born and raised in the town of Wakefield, MA. As a 1997 graduate of Wakefield High School, she went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of New Hampshire in 2001 and a Master of Arts in school counseling in 2004 from Northeastern University in Boston. In the interim, she served as a corps member for City Year in San Jose, CA.

She began her professional career as a member of the faculty at Another Course to College High School (ACC) in Brighton, MA. While at ACC, she counseled over 100 inner-city students in the college and career readiness process. In addition, she was a financial aid advisor for uAspire, Inc., a nonprofit national financial aid advising organization headquartered in Boston.

Currently, she is a guidance counselor at the Boston Latin School, which is the oldest school in America. In this capacity, she counsels a student caseload of over 300 students in grades 9 through 12 on academic, social and emotional issues while writing college admission recommendations for over 60 seniors annually to the most competitive colleges and universities in the world. In addition, over the course of six years, she was the varsity girls’ soccer coach, the assistant varsity coach and the freshmen girls’ basketball coach.

Andrea is an alumnus of City Year, served as co-chair of the City Year Boston alumni board and co-chair of the City Year national alumni board. She also served on the Boston mayor’s Young Adult Advisory Council.

Andrea has run three marathons including Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Boston and has traveled the world extensively, visiting the Islands of the Caribbean and the countries of Jamaica, St. Lucia, Antigua, Grand Cayman, Ireland, Australia, and Mexico.

She lives in East Boston with her husband Rashaun and their daughters Savannah and Francesca.
