CJ Ortuño has a diverse range of work experience in various leadership roles. They most recently served as the Vice President of Philanthropy at Civic News Company. Prior to that, they worked as the VP of Training and Coaching at Grenzebach Glier and Associates, where they focused on improving client performance through meaningful learning experiences. Before that, CJ held positions at Teach For America, where they were the VP of Lead Development Partner, and at City University of New York School of Law, where they served as the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. They also gained experience as the Executive Director at SAVE Dade, leading political advocacy and community outreach efforts, and as the Director of Development at Hands On Miami, where they professionalized fundraising strategies and oversaw communications and corporate services programs. Overall, CJ has a strong background in fundraising, philanthropy, leadership development, and advocacy.

CJ Ortuño holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Florida International University, which was obtained from 1997 to 2000. In 1994 to 1996, CJ completed an Associate's Degree in Philosophy at Miami Dade College. CJ also has additional certifications, including a Certificate in Leadership from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School (2009) and a Certificate in Philanthropy from Indiana University Indianapolis (2007).
