Kanya Bennett has a diverse and extensive work experience. Kanya is currently serving as the Managing Director for Government Affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Prior to this, they worked at The Bail Project as the Senior Policy Counsel & Legislative Coalition Manager. Kanya also held the position of Legislative Counsel at the ACLU for a significant period. Before joining the ACLU, Kanya served as the Director of Programs for Criminal and Civil Justice at the American Constitution Society. Kanya began their career as a Counsel at the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on the Judiciary. Additionally, they have held various positions including Congressional Fellow at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Summer Associate at O'Donnell, Schwartz & Anderson, Legal Intern at Lawyers' Committee for Better Housing, and Legal Intern at the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights.
Kanya Bennett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Kanya also obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
