Brian Robertson, PhD

Brian Robertson, PhD, has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Brian is currently serving as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) at CL-Invest AS since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Lecturer in Sustainable Finance at ISEG - Executive Education from September 2021 to May 2023. Brian also held the position of Senior Certification Manager (Fixed-Income ESG) at Climate Bonds Initiative from February 2021 to January 2023.

Brian has a strong background in academia, having worked as an Adjunct Lecturer of New Venture Planning at Trent University from November 2020 to December 2022, and as an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Impact Assessment at Redeemer University from October 2020 to December 2022.

Before their academic endeavors, Brian worked as an Entrepreneur and Environmental Finance Consultant at Environance from January 2015 to December 2022. Brian gained experience in emissions and energy-trading risk management as an Associate at Ferdec GmbH from June 2014 to August 2015. Brian also contributed to GHG reporting and accounting guidelines for DACH-region SMEs as a Co-author at WWF Germany from March 2013 to March 2014.

Brian's extensive career in the field of carbon finance began at NexTerra Capital Corp., where they served as the Director of Carbon Finance from July 2005 to February 2013. Prior to this, they held various roles including Project Manager, Conference Producer/Sales Executive, and Assistant Lecturer across different companies from April 1998 to June 2005.

Brian Robertson has a Bachelor of Arts (Hon. B.A.) degree from the University of Toronto. Brian also holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, they have completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Ecological Economics from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
