Mary Clancy, Non-Executive Director, retired from the day-to-day operations of Clancy in 2004 but remains a major shareholder.
Mary joined the family business in 1974 and was appointed Company Secretary and Director in 1985. During that time she has seen the group turnover increase from £10m to £200 and the number of employees increase from 300 to over 2000.
Born in London in 1948, Mary went on to read history at Trinity College Dublin.
Out of the office Mary is heavily involved with charity work. She was Chairman of the Irish Youth Foundation in England for 7 years and as such she was instrumental in raising over £2 million for disadvantaged young Irish people in England. She remains on the Board as a Trustee. She is Chairman of the Women’s Irish Network. She was a Trustee and Chair of the Development Committee of the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn for 12 years but resigned in April 2008. In 2002 she was given the Irish Post Award for services to the community. Furthermore in 2004 she was awarded Irish Tatler International Woman of the Year.
