Jennifer Ervin

Jennifer Ervin is the current General Counsel at Clark Atlanta University. Jennifer has held this position since January of 2020. Prior to their current role, Jennifer served as the General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer for Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) from July 2016 to January 2020.

Jennifer is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and is a proud product of MSCS, having graduated from White Station High School. As the General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer for MSCS, they monitored and managed a team of 22 employees in the day-to-day operations of the school district’s legal, policy, legislative and risk management departments. Jennifer provided legal and strategic advice and counsel to the Superintendent and Executive Cabinet members and their respective teams on all matters affecting the school district. These matters included, but were not limited to, matters involving litigation, teacher tenure, state and federal employment law compliance, state and federal academic standard compliance, state "sunshine" laws, crisis management, contract drafting and review, real estate, procurement bid protests and general litigation. Additionally, Jennifer provided ad hoc advice and counsel to the nine-member elected school board when needed.

In their current role as General Counsel at Clark Atlanta University, Jennifer provides legal representation for the University in a variety of areas including: student affairs, Title IX/EOE compliance, labor and employment law, general litigation, contracts, real estate transactions, risk management and general counsel advice to the Board of Trustees and senior leadership.

Jennifer Ervin has a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Clark Atlanta University, and a HS Diploma from White Station High School.
