Sara Melanson is a senior architect who has been engaged in educational and community projects for more than 18 years. Her focus has evolved from a background in K-12 educational environments into community college and complex higher education projects. Recent and current projects have refined her expertise towards educational facilities for the health sciences and healthcare professionals. Driven by engagement in increasingly complex sets of design challenges, Sara actively leads design teams towards the development of conceptual ideas into thoughtful design solutions. Her experience with successful design delivery and construction is greatly attributable to her technical expertise and multi-disciplinary design approach.
Sara was the project architect for the Health and Human Sciences Building at Western Carolina University. Awarded LEED Gold certification, the project was also recognized in 2015 with an International Re-Thinking the Future sustainability award and several AIA design awards. She is currently leading the design team for the Health Sciences Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina, a unique public-private collaboration with healthcare and academic partners. Sara is a LEED accredited professional and a CSI construction documents technologist. She has a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
