Fernando Melchor

Fernando Melchor is a data scientist who has worked for Gobierno de la Ciudad de México and Discovery Inc. Fernando is currently employed at Flat.mx in an unknown role.

In their previous position as Director of Data Architecture and Data Analysis for Gobierno de la Ciudad de México, Fernando developed the city’s security dashboard for the police department. This dashboard is used daily for tracking crime and making decisions. Fernando also created optimization algorithms for police distribution on the subway system, including a visualization tool with metrics and a graphic scheduler. In addition, they diagnosed emergency response time of ambulances and identified the three main root causes of delays. The actions they implemented reduced the average response time by 10 minutes. Fernando also presented and produced multiple exploratory data analyses to inform decision makers in areas such as security, emergency response, and mobility.

Fernando created a data analytics team to assist the mayor and other city departments with decision making. Fernando mentored a team of five data analysts and scientists with best practices and product development methodologies. Fernando also implemented on-hands training to develop ETL pipeline and database capabilities on the team.

Prior to their work in government, Fernando was a data scientist at Discovery Inc from February 2018 to February 2019.

Fernando Melchor has a Master of Science in Data Science and Urban Informatics from NYU Center for Urban Science + Progress. Fernando also has a DELF B2 from Instituto Francés de América Latina. Lastly, they are an Ingeniero Mecatrónico specializing in Manufactura, Diseño, Automatización from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
