Nicholas Sarlis, MD, PhD, FACP has a diverse and extensive work experience in the medical field. Nicholas has held multiple positions throughout their career, starting with their role as Senior Clinical Investigator at the National Institutes of Health where they focused on clinical and translational research in endocrine malignancies. Nicholas then became an Associate Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center where they continued their research in endocrine malignancies, with a focus on thyroid cancer. In addition to their research, they co-led the clinical trial portfolio for studies in thyroid, adrenal, and neuroendocrine cancers at MD Anderson.

After their time at MD Anderson, Dr. Sarlis joined Sanofi-Aventis as a Senior Medical Director, where they led and managed medical affairs teams supporting various oncology products. Nicholas played a key role in launching several products and collaborated with global teams in preparation for market entry of new assets.

Dr. Sarlis then transitioned to Incyte Corporation as the Vice President and Head of Global Medical Affairs, responsible for leading the planning and execution of global medical affairs activities for the company's oncology products and pipeline. Nicholas established a multi-functional team and implemented a comprehensive scientific communication plan.

Following their time at Incyte, Dr. Sarlis served as Chief Medical Officer at Sellas Life Sciences, where they led the overall strategic direction of clinical development programs for novel product candidates and identified opportunities for collaborations and partnerships. Nicholas also provided medical and scientific oversight for business development and investor relations projects.

Dr. Sarlis then joined The Lynx Group as Chief Medical Officer and later became an Executive Medical Advisor, where they provided strategic and scientific advice for medical and scientific communications and education projects. Nicholas analyzed business opportunities and optimized project management for professional associations.

Prior to their current position, Dr. Sarlis was the Head of Medical Content at Amplity Health, where they provided scientific insight and strategic foresight for key projects related to sales and operations. Nicholas ensured the accuracy and currency of medical and scientific content in publications and medical communications.

Currently, Dr. Sarlis is the Chief Medical Officer at Cleara Biotech B.V., where they oversee the clinical development of the company's development candidate and other compounds in their pipeline. Their focus is on progressing compounds against malignancies driven by scarred senescent cells.

Throughout their career, Dr. Sarlis has demonstrated strong leadership, strategic thinking, and expertise in medical and scientific research. Nicholas has made significant contributions to the field of oncology and endocrine malignancies through their research, leadership, and collaboration with medical and scientific experts.

Dr. Nicholas Sarlis has an extensive education history. Nicholas began their academic journey in 1979, completing their Prebaccalaurate Requisite Courses Completion Diploma in Biology, General; Mathematics; Physics; and Literature at the Experimental Pedagogy High School of the University of Athens. Dr. Sarlis then pursued their passion for medicine and obtained their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1988. Following this, they earned a Doctor of Medical Science (Dr. Med. Sci.) degree in Experimental Pharmacology from the same university in 1989.

Seeking to further specialize in internal medicine, Dr. Sarlis completed an Internal Medicine Residency program at the University of Utah School of Medicine from 1992 to 1995. Nicholas then pursued a clinical endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 1995 to 1997.

Recognizing the importance of management and leadership skills in the healthcare field, Dr. Sarlis engaged in further education. In 2007, they participated in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech Executive Management Course at The Wharton School. Additionally, in 2013, they completed the Leading for Organizational Impact - Extended Course at the Center for Creative Leadership, Inc.

Dr. Sarlis has also acquired various certifications throughout their career. In 1998, they obtained the Authorized User Certification for Clinical Use of Radioiodine and Related Radioisotopes in Humans, as well as the Authorized User Certification for Laboratory Use of Radioiodine and Related Radioisotopes in Ex Vivo and In Vitro Studies, both from the US NRC. Nicholas also obtained the Certification in Clinical Nutrition (C.C.N.) from the Clinical Nutrition Certification Board in the same year. In 2021, Dr. Sarlis became a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP).

Dr. Sarlis holds notable board certifications, including the Diplomate of ABIM in Clinical Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, as well as the Diplomate of ABIM in Internal Medicine, both awarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Nicholas is also a registered NCI Principal Clinical Investigator and has earned board certificates in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism from the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.

Continuously seeking to expand their knowledge and skills, Dr. Sarlis has recently obtained additional certifications in various areas through LinkedIn, including "Confronting Bias: Thriving Across Our Differences," "Leading Your Org on a Journey of Allyship," and "Sallie Krawcheck on Risk-Taking."
