Rich Kassel

Member, Advisory Board and Director of Policy at ClearFlame Engines

Rich Kassel has over 30 years of experience in the environmental and sustainability sectors. Rich began their career in 1983 as one of the two founding staff members at USPIRG, and also served on the advocacy staffs of MASSPIRG and NJPIRG. In 1989, Rich became an associate at O'Melveny & Myers LLP, where they worked on environmental matters, mergers and acquisitions, and a range of complex commercial transactions. In 1997, they were awarded a fellowship to study transportation policy in several European cities and at the European Union. From 1991-2012, Rich worked at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) as a Senior Attorney, Director of Clean Fuels and Vehicle Project, and Consultant to China Program. Rich's award-winning work played major roles in many clean air, energy and transportation policy victories. In 2012, Rich became the Senior Vice President at Gladstein, Neandross & Associates (GNA), where they focused on implementing projects that reduced transportation emissions and fuel costs, developing markets for alternative fuel, electric, and other advanced technology vehicles, and advocating for sustainable clean air, energy and transportation policy. In 2016, Rich was appointed Chair of the Mobile Source Technical Review Subcommittee at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In 2020, Rich joined ClearFlame Engine Technologies as a Member of the Advisory Board and Director of Policy. Currently, Rich is a Partner at AJW, Inc., where they advise businesses and nonprofit clients as they create, evaluate, and implement decarbonization and other sustainability strategies.

Rich Kassel attended Lynbrook HS from 1974 to 1978. Rich then went on to Brown University from 1978 to 1982, where they earned an A.B. in Rich'story. In 1985, Rich Kassel graduated from New York University School of Law with a J.D. in Law.
