Larry Metzger

Senior Principal Communications System Architect at Clever Devices

Larry Metzger has over 27 years of work experience in the technology industry. Larry started their career in 1991 at IBM, where they worked as a Design/Software Engineer and AIX Consultant/Software Engineer. During their time at IBM, they participated in various projects related to LAN Interconnection, ATM products, and TCP/IP Network Interfaces.

In 1994, Larry joined Netlink Inc as a Software Engineer, where they were responsible for porting an SNMP element management application and integrating it into Netview/6000. Larry also set up a version control management system and a build system for the application.

Larry joined Cisco in 1995 and held multiple roles during their tenure. Larry worked as a Software Engineer, where they invented and built the Response Time Reporter Feature, which became a core component of the SolarWinds product line. Larry then served as a Technical Leader, leading the evaluation of architecture and designing product components for the IPICS product line. Larry also worked as a Product Manager, where they led product strategies and authored product requirement documents (PRDs) for various products in the Safety and Security BU.

From 2008 to 2012, Larry worked as a Program/Project Manager at Cisco, where they managed customer deployments for enterprise customers and led virtual teams across the world.

In 2018, Larry joined STA Group as a Principal Media Architect, where they migrated Cisco IPICS into a CI/CD solution.

Later in 2018, Larry moved to Clever Devices as a Senior Principal Communications System Architect. In this role, they led the application delivery architecture and served as the infrastructure as code architecture team leader. Larry also worked on secure credential distribution and credential authentication/authorization.

Throughout their career, Larry has demonstrated expertise in architecture, media solutions, communications systems, and program/project management. Their experience spans across various domains, including public safety, SIP proxy servers, and element management applications.

Larry Metzger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from the University of Northern Iowa, where they studied from 1983 to 1987. Larry then pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science from West Virginia University, completing their studies from 1987 to 1989.
