Eugene Barker

Eugene Barker currently serves as the Retail Risk Director at Close Brothers, overseeing credit risk management for the bank's Retail portfolios, including Motor Finance and Premium Finance, and is a key member of the Retail ExCo and bank Credit Leadership Team. Prior experience includes a tenure at Barclays from February 2010 to May 2019, where Eugene held several senior roles, including Director and Head of Governance for Wholesale Credit, and led significant risk transformation initiatives. Eugene's career commenced in the Absa Graduate Development Programme, where notable achievements included being awarded Top Graduate and serving as Vice Chairman of the Giveback Committee. Eugene holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Honours in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Actuarial Science from the University of Pretoria.
