Emmanuel Schanzer is the current Director at Code For Fun. Prior to this, they served as a Teaching Fellow, Alumni Services Coordinator, and Special Projects for Citizen Schools from January 2004 to December 2009. There, they focused on mentoring and teaching high-needs students in Dorchester, MA, with an emphasis on math achievement. Emmanuel also contributed to the administration of a “bridge year” program that served hundreds of young people in Boston each year.
In addition, Emmanuel designed and implemented curricula and training materials for teachers, which were focused on math and technology. Emmanuel then worked to adapt them for state standards and multiple learning styles. Emmanuel also implemented a relational database system for tracking information at program sites and managed relationships with dozens of organizations, high schools, afterschool programs, law firms, Northeastern University, Microsoft, Thompson Financial and IBM. Furthermore, they directed the national roll-out of a high-school-success program as part of a Goldman-Sachs grant.
Before their work at Citizen Schools, Emmanuel was a High School Teacher at Media and Technology Charter High School from January 2003 to December 2004. Emmanuel then went on to be a Program Manager at Microsoft from May 2001 to September 2002.
Emmanuel Schanzer received their Ed.D from Harvard Graduate School of Education in the field of Algebra Education. Emmanuel also holds an M.Ed from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Mind, Brain and Education as well as a Master of Education (M.Ed) from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction. Emmanuel Schanzer's undergraduate degree is in Computer Science from Cornell University.
