Chelsea Ireland

In her national insurance recovery practice, Chelsea Ireland represents policyholders seeking coverage under a wide range of policy types, including general liability, D&O, commercial property, and builder’s risk.

When insurance carriers employ a business model that charges steep premiums and then denies coverage for claims at virtually every turn, Chelsea finds it gratifying to help organizations pursue and obtain the compensation they’re due. She fully appreciates that, in many high-stakes cases, a successful resolution means the difference between a business’s failure or its success. Competitive by nature, Chelsea advocates fiercely for her clients. She cultivates a “play-to-win” mentality honed by her lifelong participation in high-level athletics, but also incorporates the ideals of sportsmanship into her legal practice. Chelsea remains levelheaded when the pressure is on and believes that civility and cordiality to all the parties often generates the best outcomes for her clients.

Chelsea embraces the swift pace of litigation and the challenge of closely analyzing the language of insurance policies to determine whether the client has coverage. Viewing the process as a bit of a word game, she interprets and strings provisions together creatively to develop strong arguments for coverage. Chelsea understands that creativity and tactical thinking are essential to an effective litigation strategy, and that the clear and concise communication of arguments is the key to winning cases.

Before starting private practice, Chelsea gained valuable legal experience working with the Federal Defenders of New York, an independent, non-profit corporation dedicated to defending low-income citizens accused of federal crimes. In addition, Chelsea previously interned with the New York State Attorney General in the Taxpayer Protection Bureau, where she worked on the investigation and litigation of qui tam suits filed under the New York State False Claims Act.
