Karen Flannery has a diverse work experience, starting from 1990 as a Care Worker at Gwalia Healthcare Ltd. Karen then worked as a Scuba Diving Instructor at Lewis Aqua Sports from 1992 to 1997. After that, they served as a Dive Manager at Castaway Island, Fiji from 1998 to 2002. Karen then became the Owner & First Aid Instructor Trainer at ABC First Aid Wales from 2008 to 2018. Additionally, they worked as a Scuba Diving Instructor in the Military of Defence from 2008 to 2016. From 2005 to 2019, they owned and served as the PADI Course Director of West Wales Dive Company Ltd. Karen also worked as a self-employed Private Tutor, specializing in Maths, from 2002 to 2023. Their most recent position was as the Assistant Learning Area Manager for Engineering at Gower College Swansea from 2021 to 2023. Currently, Karen is the Head of Engineering & Computing at Coleg Sir Gar | Coleg Ceredigion, starting in 2023.

Karen Flannery has a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea, which they earned from 1992 to 1997. Karen later pursued a Postgraduate Certificate of Education & QTS in Secondary Education and Teaching / FE & HE Lecturing from Swansea University, attending from 2002 to 2004. In 2019 to 2021, Karen studied at Pembrokeshire College, earning a TAQA Level 3 & 4 degree in Assessing. Presently, they are pursuing a National Master of Arts (MA) in Education and Leadership at Swansea University, which they began in 2022 and is expected to complete in 2024.
