Ellen Burnett is an experienced educational professional with extensive expertise in instructional leadership and educational administration. Currently serving as an Instructional Specialist in Math at Colonial Heights Public Schools since July 2018, Ellen has previously held the position of Assistant Principal at Isle of Wight Public Schools and worked as an Instructional Coordinator and teacher at Mecklenburg County Public Schools. Ellen's focus has been on enhancing student engagement and achievement through innovative instructional strategies and data-driven decision-making. A dedicated educator, Ellen has contributed to professional development initiatives and has a diverse background that includes roles in event planning, public relations, and claims adjustment prior to a career in education. Ellen holds an EdD Candidate degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, alongside a Master's in Education Leadership from Longwood University and a Bachelor's in Economics from the University of Virginia.

The five schools in Colonial Heights City Public Schools include three elementary schools - Lakeview Elementary School, North Elementary School, and Tussing Elementary School - and Colonial Heights Middle School and Colonial Heights High School. All schools are accredited by the Virginia Board of Education and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school division achieved District Accreditation under AdvancED.
