David Fidock serves as the President of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene since November 2024 and is a member of the Malaria Policy Advisory Group for the Global Malaria Programme at WHO since May 2022. As the Founding Director of the Center for Malaria Therapeutics and Antimicrobial Resistance at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, David Fidock leads extensive research on antimalarial drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum. Previously, David directed the Graduate Program in Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection at Columbia University, where responsibilities included overseeing graduate admissions and directing an NIH-funded program. Prior academic roles involved being an Associate Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and postdoctoral research positions that contributed to understanding malaria vaccine development and Plasmodium parasite behavior. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Microbiology from Institut Pasteur and a Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences with Honors in Genetics from the University of Adelaide.
