Feyza Achilova is a current research intern at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, focusing on a project investigating the connection between RIMS2 mutation and type 2 diabetes, aiming to propose novel biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment. Achilova has extensive experience in fencing, serving as a competitive athlete with USA Fencing since June 2017 and as a coach's assistant at the Rhode Island Fencing Academy and Club since February 2020. Previous research roles include an internship in the Bone Biomechanics Lab at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where Achilova studied the mechanical behavior of bone in diabetic women, and another internship in the Bioengineering Lab, contributing to the development of biodegradable plastics. Additionally, Achilova worked with Leadership Initiatives as an International Law and Advocacy Intern to design campaigns addressing human rights violations in Bauchi, Nigeria. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Medicine degree at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Achilova also holds an undergraduate education from Brown University.
