Felipe Gutierrez has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Felipe started their career in the US Air Force Reserve as a Flight Surgeon from January 2000 to January 2013. Following that, they worked at BANNER - UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER PHOENIX as the Director of Infectious Diseases from July 2005 to July 2013. Felipe then joined the Phoenix VA Healthcare System as the Chief of Infectious Diseases from August 2013 to November 2021. Currently, they are employed at Columbia Valley Community Health as the Chief Medical Officer starting from November 2021.

Felipe Gutierrez began their education journey in 1983 at Pasadena City College, where they pursued an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree. From 1987 to 1990, they attended the University of Arizona and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Microbiology and Immunology. Subsequently, Felipe pursued their academic interests further by attending the University of California, Berkeley from 1992 to 1994, where they earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a specialization in Infectious Diseases. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Utah and completed their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1999. Lastly, Felipe pursued a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of New Mexico from 2003 to 2005.
