María Barrena has a diverse range of work experience in graphic design, UX/UI design, and interaction design. María began their career at POOL CREACIONES PUBLICITARIAS S.A. as a Prácticas FCT intern. Later, they worked as a Graphic Designer at Peldaño, where they created designs and layouts for magazines and organized advertising. María then joined metaio GmbH as a Graphic Designer, where they produced marketing materials and managed a magazine. María gained further experience as an Interaction Designer at Experteer, where they focused on creating user experiences and conducting usability studies. María also worked as a Freelance Graphic and Web Designer during this time. María then joined commercetools as a UX/UI Designer, leading research and planning of new features, creating user journeys and prototypes, conducting surveys and usability tests, and producing pixel-perfect UI assets. Recently, they were promoted to the role of UX Lead (Staff UX/UI designer) at commercetools. Prior to their design roles, María worked at Apple Retail as a Specialist, providing technical advice and customer service.
María Barrena's education history includes a degree in Graphic Design from IES Puerta Bonita, which they obtained between 2005 and 2007. María also holds a Master's degree in Web Design from Aula Creactiva, completed from 2010 to 2011. In 2015, María pursued an Interaction Design Specialization at UC San Diego. María has also obtained certifications in UX Research from Nielsen Norman Group and in Interaction Design Specialization from Coursera Course Certificates.
