Tobias Deekens

Tobias Deekens has a diverse work experience in various companies. Tobias started their career in 2009 as a Developer & Research Assistant at Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, where they worked on a project called Cadena. In 2011, they interned at zweitwerk GmbH and conducted research for their integrated bachelor thesis. Here, they compared NoSQL and SQL databases and developed a prototype for a product database.

In 2012, Tobias continued working at zweitwerk GmbH as a Developer (Internship Extension), further developing a data administration application. Tobias gained experience in HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript, and Backbone.

The following year, Tobias worked as a Developer (Student Trainee) at Scandio GmbH, a web-consultancy firm, where they primarily worked on extending and maintaining Scandio's Open Source portfolio. Tobias also worked with Drupal and Solr.

In 2014, Tobias joined Deutsche Post E-Post Development GmbH as a Frontend Engineer, focusing on Single Page Applications and frontend architecture. Tobias also worked on improving developer experience through tooling and testing.

During the same year, they also worked as a Master Thesis Student at Ericsson. In 2016, they joined Brandwatch as a JavaScript Developer, building web-based software for social network data monitoring and analysis. Tobias also took up the roles of Product Owner and Tech Lead.

Tobias joined commercetools in 2017 and held various roles, starting as a Frontend Engineer in the PIM Team. Tobias then worked in the Prices Team, Checkout Team, and Context Team. Finally, they transitioned into the role of Remote Tech Lead, Frontend (Cross-Team), where they focused on aligning technical initiatives across teams and facilitating roadmap execution.

Throughout their career, Tobias has gained expertise in frontend development, agile processes, and collaboration within cross-functional teams.

Tobias Deekens completed their Bachelor of Science in Wirtschaftsinformatik from Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg in 2012. Later, from 2012 to 2014, they pursued their Master of Science in Software Engineering from the University of Gothenburg. In 2010 and 2011, Tobias Deekens studied abroad at Keele University, focusing on Computer Science.
