Sarah Hayes has a diverse work experience spanning from 2007 to the present. Sarah is currently the Director of Innovation and Workforce Development at Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) starting in February 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Virginia Tech as a Portfolio Director and Project Manager in the Hume Center, focusing on cybersecurity, autonomy, and resilience. Sarah also worked as a Project Management Consultant for their own business and as a Deputy Project Manager at MissionSecure inc. During their career, they held roles as a Senior Management Consultant at M2 Strategy, a Proposal Manager and Management Consultant at The Center for Organizational Excellence, Inc., and as a Co-Founder and Co-Director at 3.2 for 32 DC. Sarah's early career includes roles as an Associate Consultant at CSC, a Research Assistant at Loyola University Chicago, and as a Research/Teaching Assistant at Virginia Tech.

Sarah Hayes has a solid education history with a focus on business and political science. Sarah attended Virginia Tech from 2001 to 2005, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies. From 2007 to 2009, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Political Science at the same institution. Sarah also holds a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Business Administration, which they obtained from the JMU College of Business from 2011 to 2013. In addition to their academic achievements, Sarah has an undisclosed certification in Project Management Professional (PMP), obtained from PMI DC Metro.
