Nathan Benefield

Nathan Benefield serves as the Chief Policy Officer and Senior Vice President at the Commonwealth Foundation, a position held since October 2005. Benefield prepares research and policy agendas and leads a team of experts in producing publications on public policy issues such as taxes, government spending, education reform, and economic policy. Responsibilities include writing op-eds, offering insights to media, providing legislative testimony, and educating lawmakers on policy analysis. Prior roles include Vice President and COO, VP of Policy Analysis, and Director of Policy Analysis at the Commonwealth Foundation, as well as positions at City Colleges of Chicago, Center for Urban Research and Learning, and Donors Forum of Chicago. Benefield's academic background includes a PhD (ABD) in Political Science from Loyola University Chicago and both an MS in Public Service Management and a BA in Political Science and Economics from DePaul University.
