Sharifa Taylor

Sharifa E. Taylor is a dedicated environmental researcher and educator with extensive experience in sustainability and community engagement. Currently serving as a NorCal Staff Researcher at Communities for a Better Environment since January 2021, Sharifa is a member and former co-chair of the AB 32 Climate Change Scoping Plan Environmental Justice Advisory Committee through the California Air Resources Board. Previous roles include research assistant at Dancing Hearts Consulting LLC, graduate student instructor at UC Berkeley, and external affairs vice president at UC Berkeley's Graduate Assembly. Sharifa holds a Master's degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences from Xavier University of Louisiana.

Founded in 1978, Communities for a Better Environment (CBE) is one of the preeminent environmental justice organizations in the nation. The mission of CBE is to build people’s power in California’s communities of color and low income communities to achieve environmental health and justice by preventing and reducing pollution and building green, healthy and sustainable communities and environments. CBE provides residents in heavily polluted urban communities in California with organizing skills, leadership training and legal, scientific and technical assistance, so that they can successfully confront threats to their health and well-being.
