Gayle L. Gifford, ACFRE, has extensive experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and education, currently serving as President of Cause & Effect Inc. since June 1996. Gifford also holds the position of Co-President at Community Libraries of Providence since September 2021 and has been a Board member and Treasurer at the same organization. As a former instructor at Brown University from 2006 to June 2023, Gifford taught Management of Cultural Institutions within the John Nicholas Brown Center Masters in Public Humanities and Cultural Studies. Additional roles include Board Chair at Blackstone Academy Charter School Inc. (2011-2021), instructor at Simmons College (2004-2012), columnist for Contributions Magazine (2004-2011) and CharityChannel.com (1997-2009), and Chair of the Board at the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (2000-2008). Gifford's educational background includes a Master’s degree in Organization and Management from Antioch University New England and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Clark University.

Community Libraries of Providence
Providence Community Library (PCL) serves more than 54,000 registered patrons. Our nine library locations provide access to a wealth of resources, knowledge and opportunities for the people of Providence. Additionally, our mobile library takes the joy of reading and lifelong learning out on the road to schoolyards, city parks and special events. PCL is the largest library system in the state of Rhode Island and the city’s largest, free educational institution after the Providence Public Schools. PCL is a member of Ocean State Libraries network.
