Shannon Nelson-Tai

Director at Community-Word Project

Shannon is a Vice President on BlackRock’s Investment Stewardship team (BIS). Her primary responsibilities include proxy voting and engaging with the boards and executive leaders of BlackRock’s portfolio companies on matters related to governance, environmental, and social issues. In particular, Shannon is the lead analyst for hardware technology and telecom companies. Prior to her current role, she spent a few years in the Markets group at the New York Federal Reserve, where she traded Treasury securities, oversaw the Fed’s securities lending program, and engaged in various analytical work for monetary policymakers. Shannon had previously spent half a decade with BlackRock developing and maintaining relationships with BlackRock’s institutional investors, including public and private pension plans, foundations, and endowments.

Shannon has enjoyed writing and performing spoken word poetry since high school. Knowing how important finding and developing her voice has been throughout her personal and professional formation, she is especially honored to serve on the board of an organization that supports the creativity of New York’s young bright minds.

Shannon earned her BS degree in Economics from Duke University in 2009 and her MBA from Harvard Business School in 2016. Shannon lives in Brooklyn with her husband.
