Project Manager/Technical Liaison at Competitive Range

Karen Young has worked in the field of project management for over 20 years. Karen began their career in 1994 as a Human Resource and Program Manager at IBM/Loral/Lockheed Martin. In this role, they managed teams performing Lab Management, Hardware Engineering, Prototyping, System Engineering, Software Engineering and Test Engineering, and acted as program manager to small scale contracts with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Defense (DoD), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and United States Coast Guard and classified customers.

In 2001, they joined Lockheed Martin as a Project Manager, where they designed and implemented the company's strategy to address Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) test and site problem reporting for the ERAM program, part of NextGen which replaces existing Aviation EnRoute System. Karen also provided tool, process, and communication requirements to FAA for each phase of the site deployment relating to problem reporting, trained over 500 employees on the process and tools used, and wrote/updated/maintained guidance documentation. Karen was also a key member of a joint Six Sigma Team which streamlined FAA processes and tools by 35%.

In 2016, they joined Optimal Solutions and Technology as a Project Manager.

Most recently, in 2019, they joined Competitive Range as a Project Manager/Technical Liaison.

Karen Young obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Michigan between 1980 and 1984. Prior to that, they attended Cass Technical High School from 1976 to 1980, where they studied Computer Programming. In July 2015, they obtained Project Manager Professional and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications from the Project Management Institute.
