Swetha Mahadevan

Head of Product at Compound Foods

Swetha Mahadevan is currently the Head of Product at Compound Foods. Prior to this, they served as the Director of Product Development at Brightseed from August 2019 to August 2021. In this role, they oversaw the development of functional beverages and dietary supplements incorporating Brightseed’s first phytonutrient discovery supporting liver health. Before Brightseed, Swetha spent six years as the Director of Food Sciences at Eat Just, Inc., where they led plant protein ingredient research and commercialized egg-free liquid eggs products using plant protein ingredients discovered in-house. Swetha has also worked as a Materials Analyst in the Systems, Design and Measurement group at Ingredion Incorporated, where they characterized and developed starch-protein blends to improve mouthfeel and stability of fruit sauces and milk puddings. Swetha began their career as a Research Assistant in the Department of Food Science at Rutgers University from January 2008 to June 2013 before moving on to General Mills Pvt. India Ltd. as a Product Developer from August 2007 to December 2007.

Swetha Mahadevan has a Ph.D. in Food Science from Rutgers University, an M.S. in Food Science from University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a B.Tech in Food Engineering and Technology from Institute of Chemical Technology (erstwhile UDCT).

They are on a team with Mackenzie Batali - Food Scientist, Natalia Robert Kissling - Creative Consultant, and Michael Chen - Process Engineer. Their manager is Maricel Saenz, Founder & CEO.
