Thomas Siems currently serves as Chief Economist at the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), a position held since January 2022. In addition, Thomas has been an Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University since August 1997. Prior to the current role at CSBS, Thomas held the position of Senior Economist and Director of Research from July 2019 to January 2022, where responsibilities included leading and directing research in areas such as small business lending, consumer credit, risk, and community bank policy development. Thomas's extensive career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas spanned nearly 34 years, culminating in the role of Assistant Vice President and Senior Economist before retirement in February 2018. Educational credentials include a PhD in Operations Research from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan.
