Carter Ong Smith is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the wildlife conservation and travel sectors. As the Director of Operations for Conservation International's internal travel program since June 2022, Smith has been instrumental in designing and leading premium global travel experiences for the organization’s Board members and major donors. In addition to this role, Smith has operated as the Owner and Director of Carter Safaris since August 2005, overseeing all company operations, creating bespoke itineraries, and enhancing client experiences through direct connections with local experts. Previous roles include serving as the Safari Program Manager for the African Wildlife Foundation from January 2019 to June 2022, where Smith managed travel programs and strategic partnerships, and as Donor Relations Officer for Save the Elephants, fostering donor relationships while gaining hands-on experience in northern Kenya. Earlier in the career, Smith worked as a Raptor Rehabilitation Specialist at The Peregrine Fund. Smith holds an M. Phil in Ecology from the University of Leicester and a BA in Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology from Bradford College.
